LAWYER. ENTREPRENEUR. TECHNOLOGIST.
At law school they teach you many things, but a vast majority of the Top 100 Law School curriculum is generic and devoted to traditional subject areas that primarily live in an academic vacuum. For the most part, there is little consideration given to the practice of law and, perhaps just as important, the business of the practice of law. At MSU I strove to constantly reify my foundation of substantive law. I have made that dedication and attention to detail a regular practice of my practice. I continually strive to hone my ability to zealously put my knowledge of law into practice for my clients in an efficient and effective way that not only maximizes the outcome, but also minimizes the cost. Part of accomplishing that goal rests on my ability to operate as a modern lawyer--one that can use statistical modeling and code to make the practice of law more efficient and predictable.
Having a solid foundation in substantive law is an absolute, unequivocal imperative to being a good lawyer. In addition to being on the Dean's List for over half of my law school career, I have a wealth of practical experience in the following areas of law: civil litigation (employment/labor law, municipal law, construction law, commercial litigation, municipal defense, insurance defense, personal torts, and premises liability, family law), wills, estates and business/transactional law.
I have trial experience, am a seasoned and thorough researcher and have extensive experience in pretrial discovery, pleadings practice, contract review and contract drafting, and memorandum drafting.
I am proficient with Concordance, Relativity, R and Python.
At MSU I was enrolled numerous classes that concerned the business of law in the 21st century covering topics such as: e-discovery, quantitative methods, corporate finance, entrepreneurial lawyering, and the economics of the legal services industry.
In practice, I use statistical modeling to assess case values and forecast cost.
Clients like to know upfront the risks and rewards of their case. A major part of having a holistic picture of any legal issue involves understanding the time and cost it takes for both the client and the lawyer to resolve the issue. For various types of specialized business and litigation practice, legal informatics is one tool which adds definition and certainty to experience in evaluating legal issues from both an operational and practical vantage point.
